The Institute for Millimetre Radio Astronomy (IRAM) in Grenoble (France) currently has a vacancy for the Head of IT and Computing Group.

The Institut de Radioastronomie Millimétrique (IRAM) is a leading astronomical research institute funded by the CNRS (France), MPG (Germany) and IGN (Spain). With its research and development headquarters in Grenoble, IRAM operates a 30-meter radio telescope near Granada, Spain, and an
interferometer of six 15-meter radio telescopes in the French Alps. IRAM develops instrumentation for these and other ground and spaced-based observatories, and is now starting a major upgrade of its interferometer (NOEMA).

IRAM is seeking to fill at the earliest possible date the position of a group leader for its IT and computing group in Grenoble, France. The experienced computer scientist will lead a team of 5 engineers and technicians in order to provide effective computing and network services to the institute. He/she will steer and coordinate strategic decisions in the field of computer hardware, network administration, data storage, instrument monitoring, and the development of hardware control software. He/she will also actively participate in the software developments of the group.

The successful candidate should have a university degree in computer science or physics with several years of experience, ideally in at least one of the following fields: complex process and high precision motion control, real-time architecture and software design, data storage management and high-speed networking. Familiarity with Unix/Linux, Windows, and Apple operating systems is expected.

Being at the crossing point of many different requirements and projects with a large number of
collaborators, the position requires excellent communication skills. Written and spoken fluency in
