Star forming histories and gas fractions of galaxies from z=1-3 – PHIBSS1

Star Forming Histories and Gas Fractions of Galaxies from z=1-3 (PHIBSS1) & Molecular Gas at the Peak Epoch of Galaxy Formation (PHIBBS2)

PHIBSS is the ‘IRAM Plateau de Bure HIgh-z Blue Sequence Survey’. PHIBSS is a world-wide (France/ Germany/Israel/Italy/Spain/Switzerland/US) collaboration led by Reinhard Genzel (MPE) to detect CO from a large sample of massive main-sequence star forming galaxies at high redshift and produce high-resolution maps of the dynamics and structure of the brightest galaxies detected.

PHIBSS overarching science goals are to measure the baryonic cold gas mass of massive main-sequence star forming galaxies at high redshift and improve understanding of the evolution of their cold gas reservoirs over a cosmic time of 3 Gyr.

Results  from the PHIBSS1 (2009-2011) and PHIBBS2 (2013-2017) surveys were published and are available in the data archive for public perusal. For details on the data processing see Tacconi et al. (2010).

The links below provides access to the baseline data products: uv-tables, data cubes, spectra and integrated intensity maps. The README file provides a detailed description of the data release. The official PHIBSS and PHIBSS2 repositories are at IRAM.

Please do not hesitate to contact Reinhard Genzel and collaborators to inform them about your use of the data for further scientific studies. Peer-reviewed publications that have made use of the PHIBSS1 data are Genzel et al. MNRAS 407, 2091, 2010, Genzel et al. ApJ 746, 69, 2012, Tacconi et al. ApJ 2013 and Freundlich et al. A&A 2013. Publications that have made use of the combined PHIBSS2 and PHIBSS1 data are Freundlich et al. A&A, 622, 105, 2019, Tacconi et al. ApJ, 853, 179, 2018, Carleton et al.
